Crystal Ball & 8 Ball: A Monthly Ritual

July 31, 2024

Starting now, the first of every month gets its own report. It has two halves, and the split is the whole idea.

🔮 The Crystal Ball looks backward. It reviews the month that just ended — what the Nasdaq actually did, how wide it ran, which days trended and which chopped, what the moon and the calendar were up to, and the handful of real-world events that moved things. Hindsight is clear. The crystal ball shows what already happened, in focus.

🎱 The 8 Ball looks forward. It previews the month ahead — but honestly, the way an 8 ball answers. Not "here's what will happen," because nobody knows that. Instead: here's how this month has tended to behave historically, here's what's on the calendar (expirations, holidays, the moon), and here's where the odds lean. Shake it, and it gives you a tendency, not a promise.

In between them, one line:

🎱 SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE 🎱

That's the divider. Above it, what happened — solid ground. Below it, what might — probabilities, held loosely. Never let the two blur together. The moment you start treating the 8 ball's "leans up this month" like the crystal ball's "closed up 3%," you're trading a story instead of the truth.

That's the ritual. Every month, backward then forward, hindsight then odds. The past reviewed honestly so I actually learn from it; the future previewed honestly so I never fool myself into thinking I can see it.

Shake shake shake. Let's see what the month holds.
